Race information

Here you can find information about the different race levels, formats and requirements.

Schools races

Many of our racers start by competing for their schools in competitions. This is a great way to allow them to get used to a race atmosphere through slightly easier courses than the regional races.

London schools :

Any school in the London and surrounding areas can enter. Over the years, London Schools Ski Race has been the entry point for schools starting a ski team and we always welcome new schools.

Following these races, teams that qualify they will be invited to the British Schools’ Dryslope Championships in November which sees respective English, Scottish and Welsh schools come together to race for the overall crown of British Schools Champions.
ESSKIA also hold an indoor championship in June.

ESSKIA’s annual Alpine Camps see selected athletes travelling to Europe and every 2 years ESSKIA take a team of pupils to represent England at the International School Sport Federation’s Winter Games (ISFWG).

Regional races:

Bromley ski race club is part of the LSERSA region (London & South East Regional Snowsports Association). Regional races are another great way to start racing. The day consists of 3 individual runs, followed by head to heads and then team races. There are two different regional races that our members can compete in :

As our racers become more experienced and comfortable in the race environment, we try to encourage them to take part in the seeded races, starting at club nationals and working their way up to GBR’s, The All England and The British.

Club Nationals

Club Nationals are a step up from the Regional races. They are races which are set up by clubs across the country and we encourage our racers to travel to support other clubs. The day consists of 3 individual runs on a more challenging course that would be expected at a regional competition.

Club Nationals are open to anyone in the U10 category up to Masters.

For racers who compete on stubbies (in the age categories U10 & U12), the requirement to qualify for a position is to compete at least 1 of their 3 runs with their fastest run being counted towards the podium.

For racers who compete on big gates (in age categories U14 and above), they must complete at least 1 of their first two runs with the fastest to count towards their total time. They must then complete their 3rd run which is added to their best time from the first two runs.

Bib order for U14 and above is created in order of seed points from highest to lowest. The racers with the lowest 15 seed points are randomly generated. They run the race starting with the highest bib number down to the lowest bib number. The final run order is determined by the overall standings whereby the fastest racer goes last.

GBR

The Copper Horse GBR Series will bring the highest level of ski racing on UK artificial slopes during five races at outdoor facilities and five on indoor snow.

Racers must be registered with Snowsports England to compete.

The races will feature some of the UK’s most promising skiers. The courses are highly demanding of a good ski ability. The races are open to age groups from under-10 through to Masters.

All events are sanctioned by the Home Nations Governing Bodies with Snowsports England, Snowsports Scotland and Snowsports Wales, all hosting races meaning races will be running across the country.

The race is more demanding than a Club National with more challenging courses. The day consists of 2 runs, with each run being on a different course. As a result, to qualify for a position, both courses must be completed without disqualification.
